Kaete Roche' Held
Kaete Roche' Held is the youngest of six children. Her love for art, literature, and nature was encouraged by her parents. Summers spent at her grandmother's seashore cottage led her to a wondrous world of imagination and creative play. Living close to the water has always influenced her life and work.
Kaete was chosen by the Essex County Parks Commission of New Jersey as their first Art Specialist. She worked through her college years painting and exploring the world of art-making through the eyes of children.
An accelerated graduate of Kean University, she found her calling as an art educator with the guidance of three mentors: Dr. Pearl Greenberg, art education supervisor at Kean University; Dr. Zara Cohen, her supervisor while Kaete did her practice teaching, and the university's director of its gallery; and Frank Capasso, art educator, director of Essex County Parks, and professional artist.
Studying with these master teachers, and many others in her path, shaped Kaete's personal style as a teacher in the public schools of La Habra, CA and Brick Township, NJ. Children delight in their explorations with Kaete while they develop critical thinking skills and learning about different cultures in a fun, whimsical and positive way.
Kaete now lives in Wilmington with her husband Alan, where they have a studio. She works with individuals or small groups in the studio, or travelling to her students by request.
Twenty-five years of teaching, directing summer camps and art programs, and working with the elderly at assisted living facilities, has made art education Kaete's continual vocation in life. She has shown her work at art shows in Spring Lake and Long Beach Island, NJ and Wilmington, NC. Her watercolors, photography, and clay pieces are in many private collections.
